This table gives us an idea on Providence's poverty level compared to Rhode Island as a whole and the rest of the United states. This tables shows that the percentage of families below the poverty level is significantly lower than Rhode Island as a whole and the United states, but Rhode Island and the rest of the United states are pretty close in their poverty levels. Also this table shows transportation data. this is very important especially dealing with children going to school becuase if they do not have proper transportation then getting to school is a lot less likely. People in Providence takeing public transportation and walking to work is not as high as the rest of the state or United states as a whole. I found this surprising because living in Providence most of my life it feels like many people use public transportation but unlike larger cities like New York city for example providence is very small and so many people are able to drive or dont have to take public transportation because everything is so close in providence.

In this table we see that Providence is a very diverse city. The city ranks pretty much the same as the state of rhode Island and the Country. this table shows that the Hispanic and latino population is vaslty expanding and this is helpful in understanding how important ESl classes are and having the resources for Hispanic and Latino students as well as other minorities that may not have English as a second language.

This is a hughe impact in students school life and how well they perform, if they are woried about issues at home of if they have children of thier own to care for then focusing on school may be hard.

In this data table looking at Necap scores Providence and central falls are basically at the same level but are below the state average and Barrington's NECAP scores are higher than not only Providence and Central Falls but the state's average as well.

This chart shows a lot of variety between these three cities. As far as emergency teacher certification Barrington had the highest percent, then Central falls then providence. When it comes to not highly qualified teachers Central Falls has the highest percent then providence and then Barrington with only 1%. This can be why Barrington's NECAP Profficiency is Much higher than the other cities. And surprisingly, Central Falls has the lowest ratio of students to teacher but this may not matter if the teacher is not the best qualified for the students.

This chart shows that students in Barrington are wealthier than studnets in Central falls or Providence. Only 1% of studnets in Barrington recieve ESL services compared to central falls' 23% and providence's 17% and students in Barrington receiving special education services is also slightly lower than the other two cities. Since Barrington does not have to spend as many resources on ESL or special ed. They have more room to spend on other things, such as teachers, books, fixing the schools.

Barrington spends less money per pupil than Providence and Central falls but this can be due to the fact that providence and central falls has a larger percentage of ESL and special education students and also may not to provide the students with as many supplies like paper or pencils or computers because coming from wealthier homes they have these sources readily available.

After looking at the previous tables it is easier to see why these statistics look this way. The Barrington elementary school has greater proficciency levels even when it comes to the state as a whole.

It is interesting in this table because the percentages in Providece and central falls on students receiving subsidized lunch and studnets receiving special ed is much higher than on the district level. This could mean that students need extra help in elemntary school as they are younger an may have just came to the country where as most teens may have been in the city for awhile and learned English this also applies to the topic of special education maybe a child had a learning disability but as they moved up in grade level gained tools to work by themselves.

Conclusion

Overall, George J. West is a good elementary school it is not perfect and does need improvement, but is not far behind where the state as a whole is. In comparison to the Barrington school district providence and Central falls are far behind. This is due to economic class and social conditions in these areas. Barrington is a wealthier town and therefore its citizens are wealthier or a bit better off than those in providence so students will do better because they have rides to school computers do work and not the worries that come with living in an urban poverty stricken society. This is also why central falls is so far behind providence because it’s the poorest town in Rhode Island and has very high crime and other issues, so the students trying to get an education suffer. So, when thinking about a school or school district and what makes it successful we also have to take into consideration the people and the conditions of that city and what the children may have to endure daily along with attending school and trying to do well.
